The women in their hundreds told newsmen that their situation in the camps informed their resolve to take to street begging, adding that, it is the only way they can help themselves and their children as there is no hope in sight for them to return home, as the insurgents are said to be marching from one village to the other killing people.
The women said, most of them have been turned widows due to continuous Boko Haram crisis.
Also Adama Nuhu one of the women told newsmen that, she was forced to come out begging from the camp because her children were sick and there was no medicine. She said when she went to complain to some of their caregivers at the camp, they told her that, the little they have been receiving was coming from individuals, as government was yet to intervene since July when it brought few bags of rice and medicine.
Adama Nuhu added:
“I cannot sit there and I watch my children dying of hunger and disease. I know that I have no strength, but there is nothing I can do because my husband is late and the only hope I have now are these children that he left behind. I am begging to feed my self and my children because from all indication, help is not forthcoming in the camps as the government is busy politicking.”
