A senior customs officer (name withheld) has been arrested over the mysterious death of his 17-year-old daughter and for allegedly beating his wife to coma.
He was arrested yesterday, along with his younger brother, who was alleged to have aided him in the crime, by the police in Meran area of Ijaye, Ojokoro, Lagos State after some landlords in Olajide Byron Way, Ojokoro Ijaye reported him to the police, Daily Sun reports.
The landlords accused him of beating his daughter, medical student of the University of Benin, to death last Friday night and hurriedly burying her in his compound.
They explained that when his wife challenged him over the incident, he pounced on her, beating her to a pulp, after which he took her to an unknown destination.
Upon interrogation, he said after his daughter ate food given to her by the new wife he married about two months ago, she suddenly started vomiting blood which led to her death.
The suspect said: “I called my family doctor to do autopsy for the corpse but he said only government hospital can do that. And as a Muslim, I had to bury her on time. So, I buried her the following morning inside my house.”
He added that he buried her in the house because he was advised to do so by some people who told him that it would prove he didn’t kill her for ritual or other ulterior motive as he would not have buried her in his house if he were responsible for her death.
Lamenting his daughter death, he said it was still a mystery to him as all the four children from his estranged wife were served the food and they ate together but unfortunately, only the girl vomited blood and died
